The team have today arrived in Bilbao, Spain ready for the Junior Tour of the Basque Country (Bizkaiko Itzulia). The 2017 edition of the race sees the riders tackle 5 tough stages across 4 days in often sweltering, plus 30°c heat. Included in the 5 stages is an 11.9km time trial, which will conclude the event and ultimately decide the winner on general classification.
6 riders will be representing HMT Cycling team during the 2017 edition of the Junior Tour of the Basque country, listed below:
Harrison Wood (Guest Rider)
The team have enjoyed success in the Basque Country before, with Elliot Redfern and Max Williamson last year, who now ride for a successful u23 team here in Durango, Spain and of course Alfie Moses and Alex Braybrooke in 2015, who both ride for successful teams in the UK and France respectively.
The 5 stages have also seen some changes from previous additions, with 2 mountain top finished for the riders to tackle, hopefully suiting riders such as James Mitri and Ben Turner. With later starts in the day and extreme heat, it will be vital for the riders to take on plenty of fluids throughout the day and with the help of team nutrition sponsor High5, we will ensure that the team is correctly fuelled for the stage.
A run down of each stage will appear on the team website along with a highlights video from the previous stage. Stage 1 starts at 17:30 (CET) on 6th July. As usual you can find follow the action on our Twitter feed.
