It was a strong team performance yesterday from the team, with 2 riders finishing in the top 10 on the stage and the remainder placing well after a long day of controlling the race.

It was Ben Turner who placed highest on the stage from the team, with a 7th place, unfortunately Turner received a 20 second time penalty for an infringement while chasing back to the peloton after a puncture early in the stage. James Mitri crossed the line just behind Turner in 8th position, 1:08 behind stage winner, Mario Aparicio (MMR Academy).

The race consisted of 1 main break, which at one point was made up of around 5 riders, around 2 minutes ahead of the peloton. With some strong turns at the front of the peloton from Tim Torrie and guest rider Harrison Wood, the gap closed to around 1 minute. By the time the race reached the final climb, the gap was just under 1 minute and there was only 3 riders up the road.

James Mitri and Ben Turner were both in a good position at the head of the peloton as they entered the final climb of the day, after both experiencing mechanical issues / punctures earlier in the race.

As the peloton climbed the 2nd category climb, gaps started to appear throughout the group as the pace started to increase and the gradient ramped up. After 12km of climbing, the race saw 1km to go, at which point lone leader and eventual stage winner,¬†Aparicio was 17 seconds clear of Ben Healy (Zappi’s). 2 chasing rider were then at 47 seconds from the leader, just in front of Turner & Mitri’s small group.

The team finished the day 3rd in overall team classification, with 2 riders in the top 10.
